The double crochet stitch is a great stitch to learn as a beginner! If you know how to double crochet, you can make scarves, blankets, hats, and more. And, I have to admit, one of the best parts about the double crochet stitch (after you've learnt how to single crochet) is that your project seems to whip up twice as quickly! Soooo satisfying!
